    The Battery Replacement Data Book is intended to assist the battery aftermarket in the orderly marketing of batteries, for which there is a substantial demand.  Batteries are classified into numbered Group Sizes according to their voltage, maximum overall dimensions, terminal arrangement and special features that affect battery fit.  

    The Data Book also includes the BCI/DIN/EN and JIS reference charts.  These are European and Japanese conversion charts for battery sizes.

    This technical manual was prepared for all users of automotive type lead-acid batteries with specific reference to laboratory analyses and test methods for evaluation of battery performance, major component parts and raw materials used to manufacture these batteries.  All BCI outlined test procedures were written by industry technical personnel who are members of the BCI Technical Committee.  They are intended to provide a common means for the manufacturer and the customer to describe and compare desired battery performance.  They apply in total to batteries manufactured for the automotive aftermarket.

    The 62 page document is available in paper and CD-ROM format.  Of particular note is that the document contains North American Warning symbols and text in English, French and Spanish.
